Funcţionalul în arta romană

Abstract:

Despite numerous scientific studies published in the last decades, in many encyclopedic and lexicographical works one can still find a tendency to describe the roman art as „utilitarian”. Understanding the difficulty of reflecting the complex processes that defined the roman art during it’s thousand years of existence, the article suggests that the term „functional” - meaning something adapted to an order or to a system - is better suited for it’s characterization.
