Like other societies in the region, the Geto-Dacian society has preserved its main tribal institutions in the structure of the states created in pre-Roman era. The most documented of these institutions, apart from royalty, is the people (gens, ethne), which is actually a historicized tribal union. Some of these archaic Getic gens had a long existance, over a millenium, some seems to be the result of the last cultural-demographic mutation before Burebista’s reign.
