The treatise De Clementia is offered o the young emperor, Nero by his imperial advisor, the brilliant philosopher Lucius Annaeus Seneca. The writer uses his remarkable writing style to persuade Nero to reign over the people of Rome with kindness and clemency, holding a mirror to reflect the image of the emperor as one that will be the happiest of men. However, Seneca’s councils also aim at encouraging the Roman people to put their faith and trust in the future wise and merciful ruler of Rome who is also his pupil.
